Cogs & Logs Tuesday Traffic Tales

cogs & Logs News Help imgWhen I first came on line, eons ago in case you wondered, I think I was compelled to join every Traffic Exchange going. At that time, think the ceiling was approximately 1000 of them but very few worth
taking the time to join.

Nevertheless, I ended up with 125 of them in my pandora’s box and went crazy trying to keep up with them all. We had surfing partners in those days that sort of helped the time pass on those terrible 3:1 and 5:1 sites. There were not a lot of them then, thank the powers that be and even fewer now.

Today, I could take those 125 and break them down into rotators and
spread them around. There is even a site or two that will allow you
to build them all under one roof if you join what they recommend as
well.

Why don’t I?

Companies go out of business as fast as they come on line. Rotators
are only as good as the dummy that fills them up! If you go off line,
if you leave a program, if you are no longer active if, if and more
ifs, that rotator is a thorn in your side and the program owners.

Control factor is another reason.

Today’s top 10 programs are history tomorrow. Not quite but close
enough if you follow hoopla. IF you do not vote continuously for
your favorite TE. If you do not use them enough or promote them
to create traffic. I think you get the picture.

Sufficient credits to keep rotators in full motion.

That is another reason I do not use them. IF it takes 100 views to
attract the attention of 10 people and out of that ONE might join me,
then how many credits do I need to keep live pages in each rotator?

You live in a dream world if you figure 122 credits will rotate
your 15 sites five or six times daily. Your rotator and your pages
are mixed in with thousands of other sites in each program. The fact
you use a rotator does not give you special privileges for every site
within to be rotated first.

IF you can buy credits, you are in a better position than the average
traffic exchange user. Because they are not upgraded; because they do
do list building; because their relationship with their members is
somewhere between earth and mars, they have to surf and surf hard
every day just to keep some of their sites in rotation.

Traffic Co-ops the new babies online

Not so new really.Been around for a lot of years, mainly to find what
they do now for Traffic Exchange users – create exposure and bring in
new conversions.

Do they work? I have listened to one smart cookie give his results
about co-ops. It did not turn my crank and make me run to use them.
How about you?

Everything we do online is to promote our favorite programs, whether
we are the owner or an affiliate, takes time and thought to make the
results we want happen. It all comes down to a series of small step
goals you can measure
, based on the well thought out plan. That plan
will be in continuous motion as you research and test, research and
test some more.

Do you have a working plan? Got some thoughts on this post? Share
your experiences. That is one powerful way to grow.

Cogs & Logs Monday Motivational Marketing

img pack my reseller rightsI saw this posted in FaceBook and for a change it was one that made some sense:

Wanted: Encouragers – we have a surplus of critics already, thanks.

Unfortunately, like the better quotes of the day, this one belongs to unknown’. So I went looking for one more to suit the theme of this post.

“Either write something worth reading, or do something worth writing about!” ~~ Benjamin Franklin

Either way, Ben has it right on the button. Marketing is a spiraling
roller coaster of thoughts and actions. Either you are feeling pumped,
or you are at odds with yourself over every action.

Blog your feelings to a hungry world of readers who ride that same
roller coaster. Sharing what you are going through can be a catalyst
for someone out there who, in turn, can give you that special bit of gold
that can rejuvenate your energy for marketing.

Becoming an inspiration to fellow marketers is a great way to position
you out there on the Net. Surprisingly, some emotions that might
appear negative at first, can become a powerful inspiration to someone
on the other end who may feel like they are drowning.

Bottom line?  “Be yourself! Everyone else is already taken.” ~ Oscar Wilde.

Sunday Conference:

The topic was Email Deliverability.
The content was mind altering. Certainly informative and opened up
the avenues to how to examine your own practices vs. the way an ISP
might be looking at your email sender reputation in order to make
filtering decisions. Oh, you thought it was “their” fault?

***&&&%%%&&&%%%***

How critical are you about Marketing ethics?

Are you aware that Marketing ethics are considered a formative part
of relationship building? In that case, how does your prospective
market judge you – and judge they will:

  • Having a clear code of ethical practices
  • You operate according to some moral standard or theory
  • You employ them when
  • evaluating business ethics ie
      • utilitarianism
      • duty-based theories
      • virtue ethics

When you make the news, which is where you need to head for,
it better not be your clients view your marketing ethics as
a marketing strategy that is unfair, or exploitive or deceptive.

Philosophical terms most promoted are the need to be those that
emphasize transparency, a trustworthiness that exhibits integrity
as well as fairness to consumers and prospective clients.

The Not so Funny Bot Farm And Other Dangerous Antics

Power of upgradingHackers are people just like you and me. The only difference is a few  of their synapses snapped and they set out to make our life miserable. Some tricks are perpetrated, perhaps to get even for some imagined  slight. Others because the hackers are learning coding and bots are a new game, and others just because they can.

What happens is the merry-go-round we create when innocently  opening a mail from them.  Perhaps sharing an image with an ugly  bit of malware attached. Bet, if you are honest, you have found this  cool picture and downloaded it to your computer.

Did you run the img through your updated professional security before opening it? Probably  not. The tendency is to think it comes from an honorable place so it  must be fine. Did you check to make sure it is not copyrighted and your right to public use?

Last week 10khits4unow was paid a visit by a hacker spammer. The  damage done was via email. Tens of thousands of annoying email  messages sent out inviting search engine blacklisting. Suffice it to  say it struck a serious cord about what we all are facing using the  Internet. And that is bots are here to stay.

The Criminal Element

Bots and Botnets are commonly associated with cyber criminals out  to steal data, identities, credit card numbers and worse.

Broadly speaking, a bot is any computer program that runs  automated tasks.   Take the Google bot. It scurries around the net  checking out website pages collecting information for searchers to  find. This one, along with Alexa, are good bots that are familiar to  us. The crawlers and spider bots we hope pay our websites a visit  often.

Scraper Bots

Cheeky spam bots that crawl the web searching out email addresses  with full spam purposes. Others search for twitter handles, blog  comment fields and any other method of contact into which they can  pump spam.

The worst feeders to these attacker bots can be you, the person who  understands how very sensitive your passwords can be. Yet you  spread private information  openly across the many chats to the many bots waiting in hiding just for you.

Good Bots and Bad Bots Online

They not only outnumber us, but account for 61.5% of all internet  traffic. Now that is scary news. This shift in traffic signifies two  things. One an increase in automated traffic, as ecommerce  increases their competitive search methods. And that leads to the  bad bots out to skim information and infiltrate data bases and  computers everywhere.

Incapsula  Blog provides an informative article on the top 10 Bots you should know about. It’s a small world that grows mightily large  when you realize China, Russia and France play a very big role in  data management.

How does this all affect you? The more you know, the easier it is to work with the right ones. Then find a way to block  dangerous bots without closing the door on the  very bots you need to support your efforts.
